Despite falling 2-0 at home in the first leg of their semifinal clash with Thailand, Myanmar coach Gerd Zeise remains confident that his team can still reach the final of the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup.
Speaking exclusively with FOX Sports Asia post-match the German mentor said that he’s happy to be going to Bangkok where he argued that his team can play with ‘freedom.’
“I don’t see it as a disadvantage at all having to play outside Myanmar and in fact I’m happy that is the case.
“The score now is 2-0 so all the pressure is on them in front of their home fans and for us there is no expectation, no pressure at all.
“We can go to Thailand and play with complete freedom so let’s see what happens, I know we can score over there so let’s wait and see.”

“เราจะไปเมืองไทยและเล่นอย่างมีอิสระอย่างสมบูรณ์แบบแล้วเรามาดูกันว่าอะไรจะเกิดขึ้น ผมรู้ว่าเด็กผมสามารถยิงที่กรุงเทพฯได้ รอดูละกัน”
In front of a boisterous, capacity, crowd of almost 35,000 the White Angels matched the defending champions for decent spells of an up-tempo contest and tried to remain positive and attack.
That was in stark contrast to the way that several nations – notably Singapore – opted to approach the Thai juggernaut during the group stage and Zeise was delighted by that positive mentality.
“I don’t like that sort of football with ten players sitting behind the ball so we tried to play our normal style.

Thailand fullback Tristan Do was also impressed by the approach of the hosts, telling FOX Sports Asia that they had expected them to play an up-tempo type of match.

As Zeise noted though at this level you can’t afford to switch off at the other end of the pitch.
“We faced Thailand who are a big team and I’m happy that we were able to create chances and play good football.
“The only thing is that at this level mistakes are punished and they punished us for two mistakes with two goals.
“We now have a couple of days to recover so let’s wait and see what happens in Thailand where we can go and play with freedom.”
